Our Second in the Mezzanine

RCMN Meeting – May 21, 2008
By: Rtn Ariel C. Rivera

Fourteen members of the Rotary Club of Makati – North once again took time out of their busy schedules to gather at the Dusit Thani Hotel’s Meeting Room 3 at the Mezzanine floor for the weekly meting last May 21. With a sumptuous lunch consisting of tender chicken breast with potatoes in mushroom sauce, the meeting officially commenced when our Moderator, Dieter Brueckner called our newest member Archie Reaño for the Invocation. After the meeting was called to order, President Joe started off with his usual opening remarks and jovially ended with his call to PE Klink Ang to take care of the Clun, as he ends his colorful term on June 30.

Also, Director Daniel Wiedmer celebrated his birthday that same day, and blew out the candles on his cake, as the Rotarians present sung a buoyant “Happy Birthday”.

On club news, we were informed that on June 4, PG Ato Magadia, President Joe Reaño, PP Rick dela Torre and Rtn Dan Villanueva will be our representatives to the Second Rotary Golf Foundation in Toronto, Canada, as well as to the Rotary International Convention in Los Angeles, USA.

Lastly, Sec. Victor Magdaraog gave an insightful talk on the use and abuse of the Internet. I was surprised to learn that there are over 1.4 billion users of the Internet! It has become a part of our daily lives, and has definitely transcended its earlier origin, as just a source of information. From e-commerce, blogging, social networking, shopping and research, you can find anything and everything with just a click of a button! How amazing is that?! Secretary Vic ended on the note that we should be able to keep up with this ongoing and developing technology, not just to be competitive with the business world, but also to connect with our computer savvy children. Now I realize the urgency to understand what my daughter means when she types BRB and LOL!
