THE WEEK THAT WAS
April 9, 2008 – by Dir. Bob Hecks
Former members day and Mike Clancy’s quiz are becoming part of RCMN tradition. Having both on the same day made a festive occasion. Added to that we had three members of the District 3830 Group Study Exchange Team bound for Connecticut USA.
Former member Romy Dizon was the moderator, so we had plenty of between-events entertainment. Romy’s memory for personal details is phenomenal and he’s lost none of that with advancing years. And he managed to look like Barack Obama – see the photo on the opposite page.
Mike Clancy’s quiz was a well prepared as usual. In what other quiz can you see a commentary on the answers on screen? And multiple-choice answers take a lot of time to put together. Anyway, be advised that Damascus is the oldest surviving name of cities mentioned in the bible.
Pres. Joe’s message was mainly the one in writing on the front cover of ‘Ang Magiting.’ Referring to the joint meeting of several D.3830 clubs on April 3, which had former President Estrada as guest speaker, he did a thoughtful job of drawing lines between what is ‘political’ and what is not. See www.rcmn.org for a good analysis of what should guide us in selecting ‘political’ guest speakers. With elections due in two years time, candidates are already looking at Rotary Club audiences.

My dear fellow Rotarians with RC Makati North:
Let’s focus on the District’s Annual TRF Testimonial Dinner & Ball, one of the District’s premier Rotary event, that is fast approaching. Again —- the event date and time is Nov. 13, 2009, Friday at 6 pm and venue is at the Rigodon Ballroom of the Peninsula Manila. Tickets to the event: P1,000/guest to cover dinner, raffle, & entertainment.
The following information should give you an idea of the extent of RCMN’s participation, so far, in the coming days and up to the actual date of the event:
