Turnover of "Mobile Wok" Trike

By: Dir. Nato Sumalde

There were certainly sunny & happy faces on this rainy day as RCMN and IWCMN jointly turned over twelve (12) trike bikes to pre-qualified members of RCC Brgy. Singkamas and Sta. Cruz at F. Benitez School main hall in Brgy. Sta. Cruz.

These “Mobile Wok” trikes will become the platform of RCMN and IWCMN’s livelihood program where beneficiaries will eventually own them and to start a business of their own to peddle food and other daily needs within their communities.

Pres. Joe and Dir. Tony Newnham developed a system whereby each trike will be paid back by the pre-qualified member P50.00/day for 170 days (or 6 months) after which, the member will own the trike. After paying for 6 months, the P7k cost per trike will be re-paid to the club with a 1%/mo. interest while the Rotary Community Corps (RCC) will also get 2.5%/mo. income fee as the collector and also serves as guarantor for the loan of its beneficiary-member. With the initial twelve (12) trikes, it is expected to double in 12 months time. This is essentially a micro-finance scheme to teach RCC members to become responsible borrowers so they will be able to optimize its benefits.

During the presentation, we asked the beneficiaries if the assumed P500.00/day gross sales at 40%- 50% gross profit is achievable, which they not only confirmed but promised to surpass the initial sales target to retain a higher net profit. All beneficiaries attended the livelihood seminar conducted by the IWCMN the following day to further develop the goods that they will sell, how to sell them and manage the money in the end.

Pres. Joe also encouraged all beneficiaries to regularly maintain in good shape their trikes as this will become their main source of livelihood and introduced a competition for the “best decorated” Mobile Wok trike to win P2,000.00 which is good enough for an initial working capital. IWCMN Pres. Cynthia Magdaraog also offered a livelihood working capital as a Grand Prize for the best “implemented” livelihood overall project after six (6) months and requested RCC to do the monitoring and make progress reports.

In attendance to support & gave peddlers clearance is Makati City Administrator & PP Marge de Veyra (RC Makati Poblacion). Aside from Pres. Cynthia, IWCMN were represented by Rotary Spouses Vicky Magadia, Choi Reano, Cynthia Magdaraog, and Marje Syjuco. We also extend our thanks to RCMNers who witnessed the turnover, PP Tony Chong, PP Donnies Alas, Dir. Bob Hecks & Dir. Ian Alas. RCC Brgy. Sta. Cruz Pres. Ida Rafols and RCC Brgy. Singkamas Pres. Tameng Pacibe were all smiles together with their respective officers as they sign the Letter of Guarantee and accept the “Mobile Wok” trike.
