Sec. Bob Hecks
November 23, 2011

We had very exciting fund-raising news of a potential Makati North (International) Rotary Poker Classic Tournament. We sampled tasty wine named St. Ambrose made from cherries. We had news of serious Rotary activity on the Bonifacio Day holiday and a joint meeting featuring the Rotary Academy today December 7 with DGE Sue Sta. Maria. Our guest speaker’s topic was about the eight stages of life, particularly the over-65. And the word “golf” was actually used to make the subject clear when we’re talking about “the Governor’s third leg.” We’ll hear more about the results of that December 5 event today.

A few weeks ago we were visited for two meetings by a guest of PP Dieter Brueckner who is the Executive Director of a Las Vegas-based company Charity Wins Events and Entertainment (CWEE). His name is Darrell Way, and he discussed with us how big-time funds could be raised through RCMN’s involvement in an International Rotary Poker Tournament. PP Mac gave us a presentation about this before the meeting. The numbers look very attractive. Have another look at PP Mac’s presentation emailed to all RCMNers on November 29.
Today’s (Dec.7) meeting has great promise. DGE Sue Sta. Maria is actively involved with the Rotary Academy, set up in D3830 by Guiller Tumangan (RC Makati West) when he was District Governor. Rotary Academy sessions happen usually on Saturdays, featuring both basic and continuing education about how Rotary works. One basic good is the help that the Rotary Academy provides in helping clubs retain members, particularly new members.
In President’s Time, Pres. Archie encouraged RCMN’s maximum involvement in Rotary At Work Day (RAWD) on Bonifacio Day, November 30. The Liter of Light Project aims to install Solar Bottle Bulbs in hundreds of in deserving communities. See Philippine Daily Inquirer’s December1 report of the project in “PH Goes For Solar Bulbs Record” on page ___.of this issue of Ang Magiting.
Our guest speaker on November 23 was Carmelita (Nette) Oyales who is President of RCM Pasong Tamo, so is hopefully with us today at our joint meeting. She gave us a comprehensive talk about wellness, although she did not use that fashionable word. Nette is taking up a Masters Degree in Gerontology and gave a well organized presentation of familiar advice on staying healthy and enjoying our later years. Of course those years start now, for all of us, whatever our age. Bob Hecks claimed he follows that advice already but forgot to watch his blood pressure and is now under treatment for stroke, which still affects his speech.
Pres. Nette’s talk attracted lots of questions. She was being ‘consulted’ well after the time the meeting ended at 2 p.m.
