The good news was that Pres. Porong’s Ann Tina Herrera’s operation was successful and hopefully this signals her road to full recovery. This news alone was enough to say that we had a good meeting.
VP and Pres Elect Joe Reano was however ready to pitch in for Pres. Porong. Pe Joe was all prepared to be acting president for the day, showing up in a well-pressed barong, a sight we rarely see. He probably knew that we were having a well-dressed and dashing guest speaker. We hope to see PE Joe set the trend.
The attendance of some members was a welcome sight. PN Klink Ang was back from his campaign sorties. Some members expressed mixed emotions on the performance of his party list. Some sadness his party list did not make it, but more happiness that Klink will have more time with the club next year and the year to come. Others have even expressed that they already look up to an exciting year during his term. A one-two punch combination with PE Joe and PN Klink. If Robert Syjuco agrees to be President we will then have a three-year grand slam! Really more exciting years ahead for the club! It really is apparent that the club is going through a generational shift.
Our guest speaker was Atty. Adel Tamano and he shared with us some of his experiences, insights and opinions on the recently held elections, but still unresolved outcome senatorial contest. It was also refreshing to hear some personal tidbits about his life and family. I was personally impressed with his wit, candor and fluency. I think he is demonstrating good potential to become a political leader.
The usual fiery exchange that our club is known for, took place during the question and answer portion. Rtn. Sal Lacson, changed hats from one of being a moderator of the day, to an active participant to express his strong opinions about the behaviors of current politicians. Incoming District Secretary Ric Dela Torre was equally empathic on his point of view that the current crop of politicians are hopeless.
These and other comments bring us to a realization, that a new set of politicians are now taking over. Our guest speaker and our very own Klink Ang represent this new generation. Will they be able to overcome the temptations that consumed the present politicians? Only time will tell. But they can, if we help them. They will if we keep the vigilance and fervor we all demonstrated in today’s meeting.
