…or at least where your vehicle is. PP Porong Herrera provided us with guest speakers (2) who told us about a tracking service now established in the country for commercial use.
From Pres. Mac we had news of Tony Newnham’s progress with rehabilitation from his recent stroke and a possible RCMN meeting at his home.
The 1st CLIPP Cup on April 1 is going to be big, said moderator PP Ato Magadia. PP Pabling Calma’s golf-for-a-cause invitational at Ayala Greenfields is reaching its goal of 60 to 80 players and is attracting sponsors. RCMN projects are the sole beneficiaries. PP Joe Reaño and PP Ato are on top of it. They thanked former member PP Bert Lina for his help also. And Derek Ramsay Jr. may be there.
“He can sell anything”, said PP Porong, introducing guest speaker Ralph M.T. Valmonte. Ralph, an engaging speaker, started with a prayer that we would understand how Geo-Positioning System (GPS) could improve our lives. Apart from the main commercial use of keeping track of fleets of commercial vehicles (and in PP Porong’s case, hired vehicles), GPS, provided by Ralph’s company PhilTrack, is used by security people to recover stolen vehicles and even to track individual people. Ralph introduced his colleague Volcker Loges who shoed us on screen how the data looks on our laptop or cellphone. Many companies have reported how being able to know exactly where their vehicles are has usefully increased their operating efficiency.
Not mentioned at our meeting was the District Conference, which will be held at The Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel this weekend Friday/Saturday 18 and 19 March. Also worth mentioning here is the upcoming District Assembly on Saturday April 30, the weekend after Holy Week. DISTAS looks forward to the Rotary Year ahead. It is announced as a training event for incoming Club and District leaders, but any Rotarian may attend. Clubs are expected to send at the least their incoming Club officers and hopefully their entire Board of Directors. This year DISTAS will be held at the AIM Conference Centre in Legaspi Village. PE Archie Reaño is asking all incoming Club directors to attend.
