President Mac called to order. Ann Kristine Reano lead the invocation. Intro of Guests – Makati Rotary & Anns. Archie Reano announced Committee gift giving slated for December 15.

President Mac announced he has medicines to give. If anyone has projects to please let him know. Ann Vicky Magadia suggested they be used during December Medical mission.

Ann Cora Tan introduced alternate guest speaker as Ms. De Veyra had an illness in the family. Alternate Speaker was Maribel Lumang from the Department of Social Welfare Makati (DSW) were she has served for 13 years devoted to needs of women, children, and senior citizens. Lumang graduated from Philippine Christian University with a BA in Social Work and Community Development. She is in charge of the Women’s Welfare Section and the Settler’s Section of DSW Makati. She is President of the Philippine Social Workers Makati Chapter. Lumang has 3 children.

Lumang narrated a slide presentation featuring the Department of Social Welfare and the Women’s Watch Foundation, which included:

• Women eligible for aid if they are 18 to 59 years old for:
Anti-trafficking; Skills Development; and Self Actualization
DSW deals with several women’s issues including:
Battered women; Involuntary prostitution (trafficking); and
• Women in Detention (Jail), where they offer programs that include:
Gardening; Livelihood Training; and Mr. & Mrs. Jail Valentine.
• Women’s Case Management, includes:
Rescue; Counseling; Legal Assistance; and Hospitalization.

There is an Orientation Seminar on Management of Women and Children’s desk for each Barangay, which includes: Advocacy for Promotion and Protection; and Capability Building

There are also: Sports & Aerobics Activities;
Women’s Month Celebrations with a Sports fest & Dance Contest; and Christmas Celebration with grants & gift giving to disadvantaged women

Next, Lumang introduced us to the Makati Women’s Watch Organization founded in the year 2000; They get Volunteers from each Barangay; and They are SEC registered since 2008.

Features of the WWF include: Livelihood—perfumes & lotions workshops “Women’s Scent”; Walk for Health—from the Makati City Hall to Gardens; Team building for the WWF organization; and A Raffle with Sponsors like Nestle.

Lumang pointed out that all is based on the Magna Carta for Women.

How to become a member of Women’s Watch? 1) Volunteer; 2) Spend Time; and 3) Live in Makati.

Lumang was asked about the Settler Situation in Makati. She told us that many are relocated with a Blue and Yellow Card. Settlers are then encouraged to registered in the area they in which they are relocated. Unfortunately, if settlers have papers for Makati, some return despite the encouragement.

DSW Makati works on 30 or less new cases per month involving women issues.
