Two ladies from Wine Depot presented lots of information about wine, provided news of a Wine Festival, and poured samples of eight different wines. Pres. Mac updated us on projects and told us of new ideas and a fellowship meeting idea involving more wine. PP Klink Ang had encouraging news and plans about the Job Fairs which he and PP Porong Herrera are organizing. PP Klink also introduced our guest speaker Lyanne Profeta, Retail Manager of Wine Depot. Chito Frondoso and PP Ric dela Torre, told us about golf events (without using the word ‘golf’ of course) – see details in the photo captions. PP Bert Lingad moderated conscientiously and Je Arriola offered a thoughtful prayer asking God for help in getting our time priorities right.
Our close involvement with the F. Benitez Elementary Schools at Bgy. Sta. Cruz and Bgy. Singkamas could be seen from three announcements from Pres. Mac during President’s Time. We are offered the opportunity to contribute P 50 per Boy Scout to help them to register. The club is also supporting spraying at the two schools to keep down infestation with the mosquitoes which spread dengue fever. And a thousand books are now ready, through Pres. Mac’s own efforts, for delivery to each school.
Lyanne Profeta did not say a lot at the microphone but she and Wine Depot colleague Monette Atilao gave us each a comprehensive Wine Tutorial brochure and poured samples of the several different wines which they brought. All the wines were Australian with typically picturesque names like D’Arenberg Stump Jump Riesling and Shiraz Long Row. Several RCMNers carefully cleared their glasses between samples; others did not have such sophisticated tastes.
From questions asked of Lyanne, from Chito Frondoso, PP Ric dela Torre and PP Joe Reaño we learned that room temperature in a wine context is constant air conditioning and that screw-top bottles are just as good, and sometimes better than corks. There’s a Wine Depot Festival 2010 this Saturday, October 9, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the NBC Tent at Bonifacio Global City. Tickets for “The biggest wine and food festival in the Philippines” are available at any Wine Depot store. If you go to www.winedepot.com.ph you will see that the festival offers 200 wines from 20 wineries, and lots of good food from 20 gourmet booths.
