“One more year!”, “One more year!”

The Week That Was

This week’s meeting had a wonderful, relaxed atmosphere. The fellowship was nice and warm, the meeting’s agenda important (Recognition Day of President Klink!) and the red wine was tasty… The proceedings started off with good news: PP Tony Chong reported that our Club had successfully raised money for the medical treatment of a poor kid with lymphoma.

Representatives from El Nido and from Operation Smile were also present. El Nido had been a generous sponsor of our 36th Anniversary. Operations Smile was the principal beneficiary of the funds raised at the Anniversary Ball. President Klink proudly handed over a check of PHP 300,000 to Bobby Manzano of Operations Smile (as well as a 1 year subscription of Manila Times). Our Club’s contribution will fund the surgery for 20 children with cleft deformities and lay the foundation for a brighter future for them. Congratulations to President Klink for transforming our Anniversary party into a great celebration with charitable meaning!

Next, the assembled Club relished a photo show about the highlights of President Klink’s year in office, which had been masterfully crafted by Betty & Cris. Achievements include a new sister club, matching grants for the Pampangas school project, assistance to the Barangay Singkamas and Santa Cruz etc etc. At the end of the show, the room reverberated with exclamations “One more year!”, “One more year!”

President Klink then proceeded to the awards, 22 of them in total. The awards encompassed Outstanding Officers, Citations for Excellence and Certificates of Appreciation. The details of all 22 awards are in the Ang Magiting. Let me just mention the golf theme that came up during the recognition ceremony. We learned that Outstanding Director Ariel had lost 28 balls during the game – which was more than President Klink. We further learned that Certificate of Appreciation-receiving PP Ric had lost only two balls (which is the same number as the difference between President Klink’s and Director Ariel’s lost balls – I let you do the math…….). The noble finish came from Citation for Excellence-receiving Past Governor Ato: “I took two balls to the game, and I went home with those same two balls!”
