RCMN Spiced Up at Spices in Manila Pen

“imPRESSion” the impact of media messages on 2010 elections was presented by Ms Aizza Rivera, daughter of our Rtn. Ariel Rivera. The project is conference sponsored by UP CommRes about perception of the Filipino audience on the media messages of the possible candidates for president and vice president. The conference aims to inform and enlighten voting populace especially the youth to be critical of the messages of the candidates. The students were appealing for financial aid to support their project “imPRESSion. President Klink promised a press release for the project in Manila Times to support the undertaking.

“A New Day Has Come” was the theme presented by the second group Operation Smile when they invited RCMN to support “David Pomeranz Concert” a benefit show for their ongoing medical mission here in the Philippines . Ms. Analee Chua explained, Operation Smile as a private, non-profit volunteer medical services organization worldwide providing free reconstructive surgery (cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities).

Since its inception in 1982, Operation Smile had done over 20,000 reconstructive surgeries to underprivileged Filipino children and over 100,000 worldwide in over 30 countries. Again, the RCMN will support the advocacy of Dr. William Magee founder of Operation Smile, they will be the beneficiary of our May 22, 2009 Charity Ball.

PP Gus Lagman introduced visiting Rotarians from Historic Filipino Town in L.A. RC Hi-Fi President Sonny Gancayco with PE Benito Miranda gave us a background of newly instituted RC Hi-Fi which belongs to RI District 5280 with 48 clubs and 2,500 active membership. RC Hi-Fi mission is primarily humanitarian project for Historic Filipino Town and for the Philippines. Pres. Sonny impresses upon us the RC Hi-Fi by line “Filipino Time is ON TIME”

A pioneer project of Rotary Club Makati North and Rotary Club Hi-Fi tandem is Computer Program, to equip two Pampanga public high schools with state of the art computers. The funds used to purchase the computers were proceeds from Matching Grants, a 6K USD RC Hi-Fi donor matched 1 ½ by District Distribution Fund (DDF) and matching grant from The Rotary Foundation for a total of 21K USD. The amount purchased a total of 30 computers together with ancillary equipment will be installed in two Pampanga high schools.

The turn over ceremony will take place on Friday, February 6, 2009 in Balitucan High School in Magalang and Pulong Santol High School in Porac, Pampanga. Both public high schools will receive 15 brand new computers.
