By the time you read this message in the “Ang Magiting”, I am probably in Nagoya, Japan on my way to the United States. It is unfortunate that I cannot personally report to my Club the GRADE or evaluation of our Makati North in terms of its achievements attained for the past year. In the eyes of our creator we received a fair score for there are still more things to do for our fellow human beings. In the view of the district, our club is one of the best club performers in the district. PP Ric detailed the awards received by our club in his email.
PE Klink will handle the gavel from today to June 30, 2008 until I arrive from my trip abroad on the first week of July. There is no better encouragement we can give our new president than good attendance, and recruitment of new, able, and qualified members to bring back this club to its former glory. I have to accept that I did not fare well in this field but I tried my very best but my best was not enough. The strategy to accomplish this is now in the hands of the new leader but most of all, the success of our club lies mostly on our supportive members. Without them there is no Makati North.
I believe that Pres. Klink can achieve this for he has all the qualities of a good leader, charismatic yet soft spoken but firm and decisive. The club needs to support our new president for only with our support can we continue the commitments and good deeds that our predecessors have achieved. He took this job, knowing that all of us will support him achieve his plans and also keep the highly esteemed Makati North on its pedestal.
As I always said, this is like a war. A war for the purpose we want to achieve and in order to win the war we need to win significant battles. To win significant battles we need logistics, facilities, human support, a good leader to plan the strategy, and guidance from above. We may not win all the battles but we can make significant advancement and learn from the mistakes. As always we have to take the lessons from Lao Tzu “ When the enemy is weak attack and when the enemy is strong, evade” We have the best tactical support from our staff (Betty, Moly, and Cris) they count the most during critical conditions and planning.
Anyway, we will see each other again this July, again my appreciation and gratitude to all my DIRECTORS, my Governor, DS Ric, PP Tony, RCMN staff, Rotary Spouses, and to all the members of Makati North. YOU HAVE TRAVELED WITH ME TO CHANGE THE DREAMS TO REALITY.

My dear fellow Rotarians with RC Makati North:

KARL STUART McKINNON McLEAN
Born in Gibraltar , August 1, 1955 where my dad ran Shell refinery then moved with my family to Hamburg, then London , followed by Holland where I spent 8 years of my life as my father was on the main board of Shell in London.
I went to a Dutch school which was fabulous as the Dutch are the “freeist” nation in the world. As class prefect I sat on the school board with teachers and parents and my vote had the same power as the teachers.
I played a lot of soccer and earlier cricket.
