Dear Fellow Rotarians,
DUSIT Hotel, our new venue is a very memorable hotel for me. It is the first hotel that I had my first taste of hotel life. It is named Manila Garden before and I spent most of my time in this hotel, this is where I completed my night life misadventures and so far it has gone several renovations but it has kept its quality food, the Japanese Restaurant, Italian, Thai Benjarong, the coffee shop, the night bars which has just changed location. The only one lost in time is the Vietnamese Restaurant, which served the best Asian beef stew in town done by a very young Vietnamese Chef. This is the only hotel in town that can serve the most authentic and delicious Thai food, especially if orders are directly taken by the lady chef.
A few years back, most would remember the fellowship at the basement where PP Ric, Vic Magdaraog, and I were involved in one of those unexpected misunderstanding due to the tempting beauty of a lady. The rest is history. I hope both Ric and Vic still remember that event sponsored by PDG Ernie.
I did not expect that as I am to finish my term, I should end it at Dusit Hotel, the hotel that leaves me fond memories just like the presidency of our Makati North. This is a beautiful coincidence that I will have my leadership turnover at a place where my business started, the very reason for what I am today. Most of the beautiful chapters of my life took place in this hotel and to think of it that I will have my valedictory address at the same venue where I learned life.
As the hotel had its changes and renovation, so was my life. Now that the hotel has changed a lot to a beautiful, modern, and functional hotel, I do hope that the changes I did to the club would be as successful as the changes and success of this hotel. Under a new and able president, I believe the club will be no doubt have a successful year ahead.
To my fellow Rotarians, I request that we enjoy our weekly meeting the way we will enjoy the delicious menu that the hotel has to offer weekly. Let every meeting be a gastronomic adventure for everyone and the fellowship a memory to cherish in the years to come.

KARL STUART McKINNON McLEAN
Born in Gibraltar , August 1, 1955 where my dad ran Shell refinery then moved with my family to Hamburg, then London , followed by Holland where I spent 8 years of my life as my father was on the main board of Shell in London.
I went to a Dutch school which was fabulous as the Dutch are the “freeist” nation in the world. As class prefect I sat on the school board with teachers and parents and my vote had the same power as the teachers.
I played a lot of soccer and earlier cricket.
