It is a Noble Priviledge to Serve

To our Governor Ato Magadia, special guest Mr. Tony Meloto, Past and future District governors, past presidents, classmates, future presidents, sister clubs, friends, ladies and Gentlemen. Let me greet you Good Morning instead of good evening. Morning has a lot of significance; it pictures the rising sun, the dawning of a new day, the start of new beginning and hope for everyone.

This is very special day, month, and year for all of us. This is the month that Planet Pluto will look as large as the moon and 9 days from now it will culminate like the earth has two moons. The next time this will happen is on 2287, 280 years from now.

For us Rotarians of district 3830, this is the dawning of an innovative and reinvented Rotary year.

Ten years ago, as a new Rotarian, PP Tony Chong exposed me to Rotary and gave me a duty closest to my heart, which is community service. In this community, I was able to see the innocent smiles of little children given simple meals which pinch my heart in pity, the silent whispers of parents, keep echoing in my ears the hardship of living. I can feel the beating of their heart like thunder running into my nerve wondering of the great indifference in life. I can hear, feel, I know them by heart for I have lived their life.

This day starts a new chapter in my life, I, together with my club has the noblest privilege and opportunity to share our treasure, time and talents through the rotary programs in health and nutrition, literacy, shelter, and water. All these programs have been implemented by our predecessors and still going on. Borrowing from the governor’s words, I need to reinvent them to serve a better purpose.

What rotary gives to these people are not mere material things but rather hope. Hope is the only virtue that keeps us all to dream. People can only dream if there is hope in their hearts. Reinventing rotary started as a dream, only when it is implemented and succeeded that it becomes a reality. All the plans and objectives are all but dreams to become realities.

Dream is not just an ordinary word; it is the start to reality. Every letter of this simple word is a guiding virtue to everyone. We need to have Dedication to focus and achieve a goal. Responsibility follows every ones action, it is the ability to respond to changes, to problems, to decisions. Enthusiasm is the most critical part as it is in the center of every dream for the word comes from “entheos” which means God within. If God is in the center of our life then and only can we be dedicated and responsible to all our actions. If we have God in the center then proper Attitude towards life becomes our value. To make that dream a complete reality, it must be Meaningful, significant and purpose driven to oneself and to others. To dream is what we can teach to our less fortunate brothers, not mere hope.

For me, I had my dream turn to reality just like each and everyone here, but we have all more dreams and we are able to do this because at the end of each dream we know how to Share, share and you’ll have more fulfilled dreams. As you know now every letter of dreams becomes one’s guiding principle either be a beneficiary or benefactor.

In this life, I am always reminded by people who speak of words that I live by. I remember last year when Maribel Calma included in her prayer one of my favorite quotes” It is from what we get that we make a living but it is from what we give that make a life”.

But the most important quotation closest to my heart come from my father in law and I’ll never forget 9 years ago of the same day and month, maybe 5 min. to 2 pm when PDG Guiller Tumangan ended his speech in a team visit with this .Let me quote “I shall pass this way but once and any kindness or goodness that I can give to my fellow human being, let me do it now, let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall never pass this way again.”

To you, Mon, Leo, Tony, who touched my rotary life and to the Lord Almighty, I dedicate these dreams. Thank you and Good Morning!!.
