Ang Magiting - The Official Web Site of Rotary Club Makati North

August 31, 2011

Like other Rotary clubs, we are trying to get a good number in attendance. We are doing anything to make every club meeting an interesting one. Inviting and having interesting guest speakers with interesting topics which everyone can get value out of their participation. For this week, our speaker is very special, he’s a baby Rotarian but you can see that he already has the heart of a true Rotarian. Rod Gothe, being with RCMN in less than a year, has already showed his commitment in helping this club in many ways. One, he has been looking for “Friends of Rotary”, who will donate USD100 each and in return will get our weekly newsletter (Good job!). I’m inviting all of you to witness and be part of this weekly meeting as Rod will do his classification talk and it’ll be our chance to know more about him.

On September 7, we will have 12 of the top students from FBES Main and FBES III who will be the recipients of our Adopt-a-Scholar Program. The students from Grade 4 to 6 were evaluated and chosen by teachers and principals of the said schools. One of our recipients, Joshua Padua, won 3rd place in the recent International Mathematics Competition that was held in Singapore on the first week of August. It’s really inspiring to see and know that the support RCMN is giving these students is reaping its benefits already, the support that we’re giving is really valuable not only to the recipients but to their families as well. I’m creating that next year we will have more scholars to support and let’s be the bridge that will connect them to the future they love (their future is in our hands!).

This September, we’ll be working out with the funding that we got from our sister club from RC Sacramento amounting to US$ 5,000.00 and this is through a matching grant. The MG is designated for a water system project and we will utilize it in our GK Ave Maria in Tanay, Rizal. According to Dennis Arcilla, the GK Head for Rizal Province, the total cost of the project is P230, 000.00, and this is for the installation of water supply system and the structural construction of water reservoir stand including the water pump and pump house. We’ll just have to check the design of the system before we give them the go signal to proceed in setting up the whole thing.

Lastly, we’re preparing already for the application of the matching grant project and our international partner will be our sister club in Los Angeles RC Hi-Fi. This is a computerization project for public schools and our sister club will identify and choose the school benefactor. I acknowledge PP Vic Austria for taking the responsibility in communicating with our sister club in LA for this matching Grant project. Thank You, Idol Vic.

Once again, let’s keep on supporting RCMN and let’s be part of all the projects which gives us the Rotary’s Maxim: “Service above Self”. More Power to all!

That in all things, God may be glorified.
