On behalf of RC Makati North I would like to welcome Governor Ed Alvarez and members of the District 3830 team to our weekly meeting at the New World. This is the year of the Global President “Building Communities Bridging Continents” and our club is actively trying to contribute to the key projects under this Rotary administration such as:
Feeding program to poor students. We are in the process of expanding our feeding program at F Benitez and Brgy. Singkamas from 50 students for 5 months to combined 300 students all year. This will be achieved with assistance of Matching Grant and our sister clubs in the USA , Malaysia, Singapore and HK.
Reading program will continue also at the above mentioned schools where the District has helped us by supplying Basketball stars to attend the reading programs. The first was last Saturday when Jervy Cruz from Rain or Shine read to the children.
We have donated over 3000 books to three library projects; 1000 each approx..to F Benitez, Brgy. Singkamas and Brgy. East Rembo.
In November we shall re introduce the eye test and supply of glasses to both the students and teachers at the two main schools that we sponsor.
We plan to “liquidate” our current GK project in Tanay (approx.. 15 houses) and start a new project hopefully nearer to Makati in Taguig where we hope to set up a joint Muslim Christian community with shared place of worship subject to approval. We are currently looking for a site and internal political support before we look for sponsors for the project (Qatar and UAE are interested).
We have to increase our core membership by at least 5 new members before year end and we have some new “prospects” lined up.
We participated in the “Dengue spraying” project of the District and are now talking to DOST to experiment with the new “pellet” anti dengue product that destroys larvae in the water.
We are joining the district Environment Seminar next month to see how and where best to plant 2000 new trees.
Our plan is to sign at least three new international sister clubs : One in Las Vegas USA and two in Europe to add to our list of international sister clubs in KL Malaysia , HK , Singapore and LA USA.
The key to the success of our club will be signing new dynamic members and get them actively involved in our clubs activities. We currently have probably the youngest member at our club PJ Jison age 24. With additional young new members such as Kevin Prasad, Edwin Tiotuyco, Je Arriola we are well on our way to moving the club forward. We are also looking for private sponsorship from companies who wish to work with us on CSR related projects. I do not think this has been done before but let’s pioneer this idea.
Last week we had an excellent reading program at F Benitez with pro basketball player Jervy Cruz present from Rain or Shine. The kids loved the event and we all had fun. I noticed that the kids really prefer being close to the younger members, which is great such as Dir. Archie Reano, Dir. Kevin Prasad, Dir. PJ Jison and Rtn. Je Arriola. Ann Issy was also present as was Ms. Tina Cruz. The new books had been delivered and the barangay center was appreciative of the donation. The reading program was followed by Induction of our Interact and Rotaract teams and here the same team was joined by PP Tony Chong and DDCC Erwyn Alcomendras. Our Interact and Rotaractors are really motivated to assist us in all our activities.
