Ang Magiting - The Official Web Site of Rotary Club Makati North

Sept. 29, 2010

Gentlemen of RC Makati North!

Last Saturday saw us having a Job Fair at Loyola Heights, Quezon City for those who braved the traffic coming down Katipunan Avenue. I have also had offers from other barangays to host similar event which I shall discuss with PP Klink Ang and PP Porong Herrera.

We have been working hard on obtaining matching grants from our sister clubs and from TRF re funding for our Feeding program. RC HK Island East has agreed to put in US$2,000 plus a grant from their district for US$1,100. RC Las Vegas is working hard to confirm their contribution and we are now only waiting for RC Raffles City to come in. If all falls into place we shall have US$18,000 to feed the 300 children ie. 150 for Barangay Singkamas and 150 for F Benitez School Main which will be quite an achievement from the 50 or so students we currently feed for 5 months only so well done guys.

F Benitez also sent us a message asking if they can obtain funding for their boys re Boy Scouts, which we have happily done in the past. It only costs P50 per boy so I hope we may be able to raise at least P10,000 to send them to Boy Scout camps etc. which is also a good cause as they will be learning survival lessons which they will be able to use into the future.

It’s a shame Zuni is not a bit bigger as the food there is fabulous but we need space for 30plus on occasions.

The emphasis over the next two months MUST be on recruitment of new members. This is crucial to the survival of our club so if we can all bring in just one new member this will be great.

I have a new idea which I do not think will cost us much but may well give us high visibility but not cost too much. Let’s hold a contemporary art exhibition for Makati schools both elementary as well as high schools with different age groups. They must supply us with their paintings and sculptures and we will get Mayor Binay or VP Binay to come and award at the prize giving. Ernie Salas and I will be members of the judging committee as we both either have or have had art galleries. I will work on a costing for this project and put it to our board and members. Apparently we have done this before and the first prize was a six month scholarship in Paris, France (I guess we were more “fluid” in those days).

End of November (18th November 2010 6pm) there will be a Beaujolais Nouveau party at The Manila Hotel “The Pavilion” which I can assure you will be a lot of fun so we shall be holding a fellowship there if we can get enough members to commit to coming. Price will include all wine, food and entertainment and a great night out.
