Gentlemen or RC Makati North!
Today, 8th September 2010 is the birth date of our Mother Mary so let’s hold her name in prayer as we hold our invocation.
Last Wednesday evening we had an enjoyable Fellowship meeting at “Zuni’s” care of Dir. Kevin Prasad even though only few attended we had a lot of fun and Zuni’s paid. The members were also able to meet the other partner, Kevin’s dad and my good old friend Nandi Prasad.
The next “Fellowship” meeting will be next Wednesday evening and the event will be mentioned at today’s Rotary lunch.
I met at “Zuni’s” last Monday night a gentleman called Charles “Charlie” Rieth, a Swiss national living in Zamboanga.
Charlie is a past Governor of Rotary District 3850 (1973-1974). Some of you may remember him …He was the gentleman kidnapped from his beach home in Zamboanga by the Abu Sayaff and was held hostage for many years before being rescued. I asked him what he missed the most and believe it or not Rotary was high on the list. If not for the kidnapping Charlie would have had 50 years continuous 100% Rotary attendance record and in the jungle with the Abu Sayaff there was no chance of “make ups” either. Even though there are now Internet based Rotary clubs they would not let him access for obvious reasons these clubs. Now THAT is commitment!!! I have asked Charlie next time he comes up to the club to speak and visit our club. He is a true gentleman and unfortunately there very rare today.
I have asked Dra. Dianne Chua to assist us in the next month or so to check the eyes of our students and teachers at F Benitez and Singkamas and she will bring the equipment down and sponsor the glasses for the teachers and the students within reason. I will keep you all aware of the dates.
After the long discussion we had on amending our byrules to accommodate a “long standing tradition” here is the rule I believe we should add along with a clear “will not” accept objections moving forward.
The rule we plan to add says: “Every guest we propose to become a member may only join after we follow the voting rules of the club and even if there is only one objection for reasons of ethics or past conduct, the proposed member may not join.”
Objections may NOT include:
A. Proposed member is of the same category as an existing member (unless there are already five of such members)
B. Money issues unless it involves a criminal record may not be used as an objection
Please feel free to comment on this as we move forward in building a strong revitalized club together as a team and let us implement this new rule so we all know where we stand moving forward.
I shall also be working on getting some interesting speakers moving forward to “entertain” educate us in different subjects and any suggestions will always be welcome.
