Ang Magiting - The Official Web Site of Rotary Club Makati North

Busy Month

Greetings to my fellow Rotarians of RCMN —-

We didn’t issue “Ang Magiting” last week on account of our off-site weekly meeting at the Valley Golf Club (VGC), Antipolo City. My thanks go to RCMN players and non-players who made it to the VGC last Wednesday, Sep. 16, 2009. Bobon Topacio (of the Couples for Christ, Camp Aguinaldo Chapter) was quite appreciative of RCMN’s contribution and we also thank him for inviting our club to co-host the 1st “Swing for a Cause” Golf Tournament. We also commend our very own Dir. Ariel Rivera for his work in coordinating the event among our golfing members.

On the subject of co-hosting —- herewith, for your information, is a list of District activities in which RCMN had recently participated with, either as co-host club and/or with club delegation.

Literacy Summit at the Air Force Museum, Villamor Air Base, Sep. 9, 2009. We thank Dir. Danny Rayos Del Sol for accompanying me at this event that showcased literacy projects from various District clubs.. Unfortunately, Danny’s participation was cut short when he had to leave early as an emergency situation at his place of business required his immediate presence. RCMN co-hosted this event

New Generation Conference at University of Makati (UMak), Sep. 12, 2009. This successful event was attended by successful and well-known leaders in business and industry who made presentations to District Rotaractors and Interactors. The event also featured live audio/visual link with a similar event in Cebu. RCMN sent delegations from our adopted barangays of Sta. Cruz and Singkamas. I was asked to be a moderator in a business and management break-out session that featured Mr. Mon Lopez of the “Go Negosyo” fame.

Sandugo at the Asia-Pacific (AsPac) University, Sep. 19, 2009. With Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) as the primary participant, this event featured blood donation drive and emergency training. We sent a number of our Rotaractors who received valuable training for medical emergencies (e.g. 1st Aid, CPRs, etc.)

1st District Rotary Community Corps (RCC) Assembly, Paranaque Sports Gym, Sep. 19, 2009. RCMN sent representatives from our very own RCC from Brgy. Singkamas & Sta Cruz.

RCMN’s “Better Vision for a Brighter Future”, Sep. 22, 2009. With the pre-screening training for teachers completed Friday last week, actual visual examination of pupils and teachers proceeded yesterday, Tuesday, Sep. 22, 2009 at Benitez Elementary School (Main) in Brgy. Sta. Cruz. We thank Dr. Ed Sison (ex-RCMNer) for accepting our club invitation to participate and fulfill this ‘wish’ from the pupils’ parents and educators at Benitez School. The actual testing was supervised by Dr. Ed’s opthalmologist son, Dr. Mervin Sison and testing included pupils AND teachers at the school. Next is eye testing at Benitez Elem. Sch. III/Brgy. Singkamas. Again, we remind all that fund assistance for this project was pledged by our sister club, RC Raffles City thru Pres. Steven Teng. We’d like to provide corrective glasses way before Christmas —- truly an early present to the children who require such eyewear. We thank Betty, Moly & Cris from our office for putting the training and testing schedule together with the Sisons and school officials.

The Rotary Foundation Testimonial Dinner & Ball, Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, 6 pm at Peninsula, Manila. With RCMN as host club, I ask for members’ assistance to ensure success of one of the District’s primary event during each Rotary year.

First, we need our own Paul Harris Fellows (PHF). To date, we have two firm pledges from our club. (PHF requires $1K contribution to The Rotary Foundation or you could also be a PH Sustaining Member with $100 contribution to the foundation). (Kindly submit your contribution as early as possible lest your PHF pin will not be ready by Nov. 13. It takes at least 30 days to process the paperwork for PHF.)

Secondly, we need sponsors for our planned souvenir program for the event. (P10K/page or P5K/half page.) If you feel you could not donate at this time, I ask that you solicit sponsorship from business suppliers and or vendors.

Third, RCMN plans to provide an entertainment number during the event. For now, a rehash of ballroom dance (Foxtrot) the club presented in PP Joe Reano’s induction two years ago is being considered.

Fourth, be available and attend the event come Nov. 13; invite others. Event ticket: P1000 for dinner & raffle. And we need extra hands to assist us in the actual presentation of pins and medals.

Let us show the District that as host club, RCMN could still deliver!

HAVE A GOOD RCMN WEEK!
