Comments on last Wednesday’s meet. We had a very interesting meeting last Wednesday —- it was practically SRO and we’d work to have more of that in the future. We had two Pinoy repatriates for guest speakers, both imprisoned in Egypt for twenty years, and who had recently arrived in the country. We give credit to PP Ed Mijares who met the two by chance and invited them to be our guests and to share their experience with us. Our thanks also go to PP Porong Herrera who, immediately after the meeting, graciously offered his help for possible employment of our guests, surely a big step to rebuilding their lives.
We had other unexpected visitors —- staffers from the office of Senator Villar and folks from the media (surely on account of our guest speakers.) Our very own Dir. Danny Rayos Del Sol also brought my ‘classmate’ —- Pres. Antonia Roxas from RC Wack Wack —- to our meeting. Last but not the least, ‘Doc’ Sison also came to join us and expressed his own enthusiasm and participation for our planned vision exam and corrective lenses program for the pupils of our two adopted schools, F. Benitez Main and III, and we expect that to happen by this October.
Michael Kjellin. Today we formally induct and welcome Michael to RC Makati North. Let us wish Michael the best that Rotary could offer —- opportunities to serve and opportunities for memorable fellowships.
Rotaract Barangay Singkamas. We had a successful launching of the Rotaract formation at Brgy. Singkamas last Saturday morning, Aug 15. Present were PE Mac Maclean, IPP Klink Ang, PP Tony Chong, Dir. Ian Alas, Dir. Archie Reano, Betty and Moly from our office, and myself. We took turns introducing the candidates to Rotaract background and basics. On behalf of the entire RCMN organization, I thank all who were present and also the local barangay and school leaders and elders who put together and coordinated the event. We wish the best for our future Rotaractors and we look forward to their formal induction, hopefully within the next two months.
GK Ave Maria Golf Fundraiser. What we failed to put together for the 1st leg of the Governor’s Cup golf tournament, we hope we’d be able to deliver for the GK Ave Maria Golf Tournament at the Valley Golf Club. Bobon Topacio, our GK partner-coordinator and who was also at last week’s meeting elaborated on the planned tournament in which the proceeds are intended to raise funds for non-house build expenses at GK Ave Maria. (Email on the subject to follow.) RCMNers golfers —- let’s support our GK! I ask Dir. Ariel Rivera to assist us in putting together a RCMN delegation for the event.
Paul Harris Fellows, Paul Harris Sustaining Member. As you know, RCMN will host this year’s Rotary Foundation recognition dinner and dance on Friday, Nov. 13. We ask members who wish to be Paul Harris fellows (PHF) or Paul Harris sustaining members (PHSM) this year to sign up and submit their contributions as early as possible. There are many ways to being PHF, or on a higher level —- being a major donor. I suppose no explanation is necessary for the importance of contributions to the Rotary Foundation. RCMN members had been generous in the previous years and we expect the same this year. D3830 will recognize contributors come Nov. 13.
Dr. Joji Tan. In line with our plans to utilize District resources, we thank the lovely and charming Dr. Joji Tan, PP of RC Makati Dasmarinas, and currently SAG for membership, for accepting our invitation to come to our club and share with us her expertise on Rotary membership recruitment and retention. Welcome to our club SAG Joji! For an all-male club such as ours, your presence is surely a breath of fresh air to this week’s RCMN meeting.
Incidentally, RCMN will co-host the upcoming District workshop on membership retention. (pls. refer to district activities on page 12 for other details.)
GK Ave Maria Build Visit, Saturday, Aug. 29. Just a reminder —- this visit is a ‘GO’, rain or shine, unless there’d be a typhoon present in the country then we’d reschedule. Betty will provide meeting time & venue and also the necessary maps and directions early next week.
HAVE A GREAT RCMN WEEK!

Humor for the week:
An 80 year old couple were having problems remembering things, so they decided to go to their doctor to get checked out to make sure nothing was wrong with them.
When they arrived at the doctors, they explained to the doctor about the problems they were having with their memory. After checking the couple out, the doctor told them that they were physically okay but might want to start writing things down and make notes to help them remember things. The couple thanked the doctor and left.
Later that night while watching TV, the man got up from his chair and his wife asked, “Where are you going?”
He replied, “To the kitchen.”
She asked, “Will you get me a bowl of ice cream?”
He replied, “Sure.”
She then asked him, “Don’t you think you should write it down so you can remember it?”
He said, “No, I can remember that.”
She then said, “Well I would also like some strawberries on top. You had better write that down because I know you’ll forget that.”
He said, “I can remember that, you want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries.”
She replied, “Well I also would like whipped cream on top. I know you will forget that so you better write it down.”
With irritation in his voice, he said, “I don’t need to write that down! I can remember that.” He then fumes into the kitchen.
After about 20 minutes he returned from the kitchen and handed her a plate of bacon and eggs. She stared at the plate for a moment and said angrily:
“I TOLD you to write it down! You forgot my toast!”

After a particularly poor game of golf, a popular club member skipped the clubhouse and started to go home. As he was walking to the parking lot to get his car, a policeman stopped him and asked, “Did you tee off on the sixteenth hole about twenty minutes ago?”
“Yes,” the golfer responded.
“Did you happen to hook your ball so that it went over the trees and off the course?” the cop asked.
“Yes, I did. How did you know?” the golfer asked.
“Well,” said the policeman very seriously, “Your ball flew out onto the highway and crashed through a driver’s windshield. The car went out of control, crashing into five other cars and a fire truck. The fire truck couldn’t make it to the fire, and the building burned down. So, what are you going to do about it?”
The golfer thought it over carefully and responded, “I think I’ll close my stance a little bit, tighten my grip and lower my right thumb.”
