A Warm Welcome to Everyone

President’s Message – July 8

I extend my deep appreciation to club members who came at last week’s club meeting in support of the new officers and directors. Last week’s meeting was the inaugural meeting for the club’s new leadership team and it was pleasing to see many ‘getting-to-be-unfamiliar’ faces among the attendees. Hopefully, we’ll see them more often in the future.

I also congratulate the club for having completed one overdue business and that is the club leadership succession. Impressively enough, RCMN took care of that business for the next five years! We profoundly thank Mac, Sal, Larry, Vic & Emil for accepting their election. Once again, RCMN delivers.

Club updates:

July 15th Induction. We’ve scaled down our induction program that’s been somewhat dampened by notices from most members of our foreign sister clubs opting to forgo their visit because of the uncertainties and restrictions brought by the Influenza A(H1)(N1) virus. Of course, we are mutually comforted by the thought that we could always schedule fellowship visits later whenever the virus situation stabilizes.

Nonetheless, we expect a night of fun come July 15. We remind all to come on time as we will start promptly and do the induction ceremonies at a faster pace. No to ‘overkills’—- e.g. redundant introductions of guests, long speeches, dragging numbers, etc. For our entertainment, we’ve hired a band to provide live music for the evening. I urge members to bring their Anns for a night of dining, wining, and dancing. Let us make July 15 a memorable night of RCMN fellowship.

Know your fellow RCMNer. This year we will use our weekly publication ‘Ang Magiting’ to introduce/ reintroduce current members’ personal and business background to the club (previously done through the members’ classification presentation.) Getting to know our fellow RCMNers is important if we are to adopt the policy of ‘support our members’ business or profession first.’ Hopefully, it‘ll also takes us back to the days, as mentioned by many, when members know each other’s families much better.

Projects. We remind members of the club’s existing projects with its two adopted communities if only to use as a basis or guide for some of our planned projects this year:

* Barangay Sta. Cruz/Benitez Elem School (Main): feeding program, book reading program, Rotaract, Interact. GOAL: maintain current projects; do more visits; enhance reading room materials with additional books such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, etc. * Barangay Singkamas/Benitez Elem, School (III): book reading program (formal turnover of books and tables, chairs and bookcases accomplished last week) GOAL: resurrect Rotaract and Interact. (We’ll hold work with the feeding program as the school officials say funding from the city is in the works.) * Wish lists this year from both: vision exam/corrective eyewear giveaways for selected students (e.g. Gr. 1)

The Rotary Foundation (TRF) Testimonial Dinner. RCMN will host this year’s TRF event to honor Paul Harris Fellows, major donors and other significant contributions to TRF. Last weekend, RCMN made its initial announcement on the event with the district. We will celebrate the event at the Peninsula on Friday, November 13 at 7:30 in the evening and we expect the usual support and cooperation from all members to assure the event’s success.

Lastly —- let us always give a warm welcome to our guests.
