Good Things Happen to Patient Rotarians

Dear Fellow RCMNers,

The adage that says good things happen to those who wait was certainly appropriate at our last meeting, as it extended well beyond 2 p.m.

So many were uncharacteristically patient waiting for Jeanne Harn, the 2007 Miss Earth Philippines, who arrived despite several obstacles that included the fact that her first day at work coincided with our meeting day, that her grandmother passed away a four days prior, and nasty weather caused monstrous traffic jams.

These patient – hot-blooded – men willingly postponed or cancelled meetings, just so they can extend a warm welcome to our guest speaker. What dedication. What persistence.

These members even sat through Miss Harn’s presentation about the Miss Earth Foundation, although one got the feeling that their imaginations were running on overdrive.

But who those men are will have to remain the club’s closely guarded secret (given that spouses will be reading this message for Ann’s Day). Suffice it say that, like our pro-environment speaker, these are green (minded) men.

I hope the Rotary Anns will not misinterpret this message, as the members were very, very, very well behaved. Very, very. Really.

As proof, allow me to share some of the comments made before and after our guest arrived.

While waiting, future President Roberto Siguro said: “I would rather be home with my wife of 10 years, instead of waiting here.” But by golly, the members would NOT allow him to leave. One of the Past Presidents had to tie him to a chair.

It was around that time when Past President Tonio Tigre said: “Where’s your dedication? Where’s your commitment? Miss Earth might have gotten wet in the rain, and some of us might have to pat her down.” Our guest arrived safe and dry, thankfully for her.

And there, we sat and listened attentively.

Afterwards, Past President Ricardo de Tower: “Miss Earth is but a fraction of the beauty of my Daisy.” He’s the idol of many.

But not as much as Past President Kapitan, who said: “Miss Earth is beautiful, but not as much as my Ann … and my Laura, my Rebecca, my Sandra …” But really, reliable sources say this member is actually is a one-woman (at a time) gentleman.

He may not have been so well behaved, though, if Rotarian Leo Jabeguero was there. He was absent Wednesday, because he earlier said, “I would rather play golf or be with my darling or get a root canal instead of jostling with a bunch of guys for a glimpse of a pretty girl. My eyes are only for my Ann.”

But I think it was Past President Salvo who summed it up best for all of us: “It’s a good thing we have Anns’ Day next week [today], because guest-wise, we’re going from beautiful to gorgeous.”

Note: The true identities of the members here were purposely altered to protect their privacy. However, they can be revealed to the Anns for the right price – for the benefit of the club’s projects, of course.
