Meetings are Fun!

Many of you may have heard me say that I truly believe that our weekly meetings are critical to the success of our club. Having good weekly meetings that are fun – and from time to time educational and good for networking – is the first step in reviving our club.

And, you have also heard me say that this single issue keeps me up at night. So during one recent sleepless night, I jotted down some crazy thoughts about why we need more warm bodies at lunchtime on Wednesdays. These the top 10 reasons to attend the weekly meetings.

So, drum roll please …

Number 10. You will miss hearing and meeting notable speakers like anti-crime crusader Tessie Ang-See and old friends like Enteng Romano;

Number 9. You will not get to “beso-beso” with good-looking speakers, like Joji Tan, who gave a presentation about how to effectively recruit members;

Number 8. You will miss out on the fellowship and bonding with friends, who will talk about you behind your back and spread rumors about your love life in your absence;

Number 7. The club treasurer will threaten to charge a penalty from those who are excessively absent;

Number 6. We will hold a meeting at Air Force One but not tell you;

Number 5. We will give your name and number to pesky salesmen peddling credit cards memberships;

Number 4. We will ask your wives to drag you to the meeting;

Number 3. We will hold a meeting at your office and ask you to buy lunch;

Number 2. The younger members will invite your pretty Ann to the meetings but not tell you about it;

and the number one reason to attend the weekly meetings …

1. We will choose the President Elect among those who are absent!

Seriously, the best-attended meeting we have had so far barely filled up three tables. That makes it hard to invite high-caliber speakers, although I want to assure you all that your officers are not giving.

So, calling on those who have not been around for a while, please show us you’re still alive – before we report to the police that you are a missing person.

Calling on past presidents – your leadership is needed. Come, not because you have to, but because you might again enjoy the company of friends (who are prone to gossip about you).

Bring along past members. In my opinion, recruitment should begin with those we have “lost.” Bring a friend, maybe a son who is of age to be a Rotarian. Recruit a member.

As much as I like Betty, Moly and Cris, I do miss seeing many of the familiar faces that made Makati North an exceptional club.
