Proposed Programme for 2007-8

I have been asked by PE Joe to take on responsibility for coordination of meetings of RCMN including the programme for 2007-8. What follows are some ideas for and feedback.

Rotary is a hundred years old and the circumstances of business life today are much different from when Rotary was first founded. Like the Boy Scouts we have to adapt to the new reality. There are many more pressures on our time today and a weekly meeting programme can be quite onerous unless we make it relevant to our business needs.

I have divided the proposed programme into themed areas.

1. The first Wednesday of every month is set aside for a Club Assembly—no speakers, just fellowship among members which could take different forms. For the 4th July meeting, this will be set aside for the incoming president while for August I am proposing that we run the meeting as a quiz day (details to be revealed once I have worked them out).

2. The second Wednesday of each month will be given over to Business Development. Here the theme will be centred on subject matter that will be relevant to our own needs in running or managing a business.

3. Week 3 will be Speaker’s Corner. This is our traditional open meeting where we can get a range of interesting speakers on any topic under the sun. This is the week you may find Moly ringing around but hopefully, if it is only once a month then the burden of finding speakers will not be that great.

4. Week 4 is Club Service week. In Week 4 there will be no meeting in the Peninsula Hotel or in any other hotel for that matter. This is where we get out into the community, either on the Wednesday (example: feeding programme) or on a Saturday (Gawad Kalinga) in lieu of the Wednesday meeting. In Week 4 Community Service runs the programme. Alternatively it could involve a visit to a member’s home or company that was held on an afternoon or evening during that week.

5. That brings us to Week 5 of which by my count there are three in the coming calendar year. Again, in week 5 no meeting of Rotary in the Peninsula. INSTEAD we have an outing. Those of you with houses outside of Manila that you would like to offer to members for a family weekend getaway, this is your opportunity.

None of this is set in stone of course and around the Christmas and New Year break and again at handover time we will need some flexibility. It is an attempt to get some structure and purpose into our programme and by looking at the year overall we can have many things to look forward to and hopefully will be able to attract back both laggard members and new members alike.
