At the break of dawn, Rotarians from different clubs of district 3830 converged at the parade grounds of Camp Aguinaldo. It was held last Wednesday, Nov. 30, and was particularly symbolic because it coincides with Bonifacio Day. The EVENT – dubbed as “A Liter of Lite” is a Rotary-At-Work project. This is a green lighting project to illuminate 10,000 homes in 32 rotary communities in Metro Manila.

“By lighting up these communities with Rotary’s pledge to help change the world for the better, Rotary is saying to the world that commitment to the development renewable energy source including solar power is imperative if we are not to condemn the planet to the catastrophic impacts of climate change. We hope that the people of Metro Manila will hear these words and join Rotary and its partners in the historic effort to light up 10,000 homes simultaneously,” said Shelly Lazaro, the project head of the Rotary Club of Makati San Lorenzo.
The project is in partnership with other organizations such as One Meralco foundation, My Shelter Foundation, local government units and Armed Forces of the Philippines.
After the program, RCMN together with RC Makati Northwest, Makati Metro, Makati Rockwell and several soldiers proceeded to its assigned barangay – Brgy. San Agustin in Malabon City where Capt. Gary Bernardo and his barangay official and project beneficiaries gladly welcome the group. A total of 300 solar bottles was turned over.
A ceremonial installation of 20 solar bottles was held at Isla Cocomo where more than forty families reside. This is a community with no water and electricity.
In attendance in the said event were Pres. Archie Reaño and spouse Tintin, Dir. Je Arriola, Mrs. Tameng Pacibe, Mrs. Ida Rafols, Melissa Rafols, RCMN staff Betty and Moly.
After a half-day community service, the RCMN group went back to Makati, of course, after a hearty lunch hosted by Pres. Archie.
