1st CLIPP CUP INVITATIONAL

Sixty six golfers teed off on staggered flights as early as 7am on April 1 at the beautiful Robert Trent Jones, Jr. – designed Ayala Greenfields Golf and Country Club for the first CLIPP CUP GOLF INVITATIONAL. It was a bright, sunny and windy day with the wind blowing stronger than normal and giving the players a feel of how it is to play at the British open. The challenge centered on how to advance the ball against the wind. Club selection was critical and on super fast greens two putts were uncertain especially because the rules required all putts to be holed out – no gimmes. For some players making 3, 4, putts from 15 feet was an unnerving experience. But then, golf is just a game and the object is to have fun.

Given the challenging conditions and the strict rules imposed on handicapping and scoring, the players who were able to adapt well to the course on system 36 competition emerged the winners.

Overall Net Champion and first winner of the unique Lor Calma designed trophy was JP Calma, with a net score of 69 blessed with an eagle and one birdie.

Class A Champion was RC Makati North Past President Bert Lina
Class A Runner Up was RC Paranaque East Rotarian and Councilor Doods Antipuesto

Class B Champion was Boy Rosero
Class B Runner Up was RC Makati North Past President Ed Mijares

During the awarding ceremonies, attractive prizes were raffled including an Economy Class round trip Manila-Hongkong Air ticket for two, Home Theater System from Sony, round trip business class ticket for two (Manila-Cebu).

There were enough raffle prizes for each participant to win a prize.

Conceived by Pabling Calma himself to be an annual golf fellowship among friends and associates, the FIRST CLIPP CUP GOLF INVITATIONAL was jointly organized by Gregorio B. Calma Foundation and The Rotary Club of Makati North. Contributions from benefactors and sponsors will fund the community service projects of Gregorio B. Calma Foundation and RC Makati North. Chairman of the Golf tournament was PP Joe Reaño assisted by PDG Ato Magadia, PP Pabling Calma, PP Porong Herrera, and PP Ric de la Torre, all of Makati North.

The Benefactors and sponsors for the FIRST CLIPP CUP INVITATIONAL were friends and associates of Pabling Calma and RC Makati North Rotarians.
