Kumukutikutitap…Ang Mata ng Mga Bata! (Merrily Sparkling…The Children’s Eyes!)

By: Ann Daisy dela Torre

Kumukutikutitap – that’s the only way to describe the children’s eyes as they happily received their Christmas gifts from their generous Rotarian-Santa Clauses. From shoes, to toys, school things and Noche Buena packages, kids in our feeding program had their wishes come true this season. Many of them had parents or elderly siblings accompany them to help carry the heavy bags and baskets of goodies while they ate a hearty lunch of spaghetti.

God’s generosity is manifested in this gesture – of man going the extra mile, to share himself in a way that makes others happy. Not just with material gifts, but with the gift of Presence. And for the recipient, to experience not just joy but perhaps gratitude for the grace that God gives through the kindness of others.

The generosity does not go in only one direction – from Rotarians to the children. The children also gave of themselves, in their participation in the program – saying the prayers, leading the National Anthem, their enthusiastic dancing, acknowledging the gifts with thanks, wishing all of us a Merry Christmas. Small children with big hearts linking hands with Rotarians with equally big hearts.

Merry Christmas and may we be blessed in 2011 with even greater joy, peace, abundance and generosity!
