By: Betty Centeno

Last Thursday, Nov. 18, Pres. Mac McLean spearheaded the continuation of the “Better Vision for a Brighter Future” free eye examination & free eyeglasses project in F. Benitez Elem. School Main in Brgy Sta Cruz, which was started last year by IPP Vic Austria.

Together with Dr. John Paul Lam (son of Pres. Mac’s good friend Dr. Diane Chua) and Dr. Ailiene Pompa of Diane’s Optical, a total of 48 pupils were examined and may need corrective lenses. Before the actual eye examination, a total of 308 Grade I pupils undergo vision screening.

Mrs. Cecilia Payumo, the school principal, thanked Pres. Mac for continuing their community service to the school this Rotary year which included feeding program, support for the Boy Scout and Girls Scout, and the coming gift-giving project among others.

Our RCCs headed by its president Ida Rafols, Vilma Bermillo and Ning Sibayan together with FBES nurse Meg Quimoyog and other nurses from other schools: Jasmin Castro (NGES, Evelyn Buenaobra (San Antonio National HS) and Soprhene Tud (Cembo ES) were also present and lend their hand in assisting said project.

Likewise, on Thursday, Nov. 25th, Dr. John and Dr. Ailiene will do the eye examination for the pupils of F. Benitez Elementary School III in Brgy. Singkamas at 12nn. Aside from the pupils, teachers from both schools will be examined also.

Pres. Mac thanked Dr. John and Dr. Ailiene for the voluntary service they gave to our club and is now looking for donors of the lenses.
