Work Place Visit at The Manila Times

A project originally started by PP Donnies Alas is the workplace visit at The Manila Times. This program gave the young people from Rotaract club an advantage to have the chance to get a glimpse on what might be available for them in the future with this project.

The day started with PP Tony Chong’s sharing of his knowledge about the history of the newspaper companies in the Philippines which equipped me with some of the highlights of the olden times. Subsequently, as soon as the Rotaractors arrived, a staff led us to a guided tour of the entire printing press which provided us a view how’s it like to produce a newspaper. In addition, we have learned a fact not known to everyone which is that the Manila Times is also doing other printing jobs aside from their own.

Of course, the visit wouldn’t be complete without meeting the President of The Manila Times, RCMN’s own PP Klink Ang, who personally gave us a quick tour of the editor’s office where the news were generated. After that, questions from the Rotaractors were addressed including the history of the company. And as we have learned, The Manila Times was established on 1898, owned then by lots of different people before Dante Ang Sr. bought it on 2001. One of the famous and historical personalities who owned the newspaper company was Former President Manuel Quezon, who used it for his political ambition. Another known and historical personality who contributed to the company by working as a correspondent was Former Senator Ninoy Aquino.

As the workplace visit turned out a success, I acknowledge everyone who made everything possible. Our Rotaractors – for making the visit vibrant and youthful, Ida Rafols – for assisting the Rotaractors, to RCMN’s Trio: Moly, Cris and Betty for their utmost support. And most importantly, I acknowledge PP Klink Ang for his generosity in sharing his time and workplace which made the event greatly successful.
