Day One of Dreams Work! DISCON 2009 got off the usual rousing start — in fact, this must have been my 16th times to attend our district DISCON in my 20 years as a Rotarian and each time the energy and vibrant exuberance of people in attendance never failed to amaze me. By fair estimates, this year’s DISCON wasn’t as well attended as in past years, only close to 800 rotarians and their anns showed up – must have been the continuing effects of economic crises now facing most of the world – but one could still feel the excitement of those present. For oldies like many of us, it was like reliving early rotary years and meeting old rotary friends. For the newer crop of Rotarians like PE Vic Austria, it must have been the thrill of experiencing for the first time the vast diversity of Rotary. DG Ed “Boyet” Limon and his DISCON committee certainly did a very good job of putting together an spectacular presentation from the opening ceremonies onDay One up to the closing rites on Day 2.
RCMN was aptly represented by IPDG Ato Magadia and spouse Vicky and PDG Ernie Salas and spouse Chichi who joined the traditional March of Rotary Dignitaries. Also registered in the DISCON were President Klink Ang, President Elect Vic Austria and myself. We also sent three youths to the DISCON, namely our Rotaractors Jameson Maqui and Maricar Bermillo and Interact President Vhelka Dacquel. Also very active helping out the DISCON Secretariat were our own Secretariat led by Betty Centeno supported by Moly Almenario and Cris Mariano.
