History / Meeting Day and Venue
RC Makati North, now 34 years old, was chartered on May 3, 1973, as the third club in Makati after RC Makati and RC Makati West. RCMN’s parent club is RC Makati. Today, RC Makati North remains an all male club with an active membership of 50 of which about 20 are avid golfers. RCMN meets every Wednesday at noontime at Garcia-Villa Room of The Peninsula Manila Hotel. Meeting starts with a fellowship lunch. Program proper starts promptly at 1:00pm and ends at 2:00pm sharp. There is usually a guest speaker every regular meeting.
RCMN is also the first Rotary Club in the Philippines to have a website and an early user of information technology to support its activities and projects.
Significant Service Projects:
Over the years, RC Makati North has undertaken outreach projects that uplift lives and bringing hope. Some of the significant undertakings include the following:
Since 1986, it has supported with other Makati Rotary clubs the Stepping Stone Learning Center for mentally and physically challenged children. In 1994, RCMN facilitated the resettlement of some 200 indigenous Aeta families in a 2-hectare property donated by PP Bert Lingad in Botolan Zambales. For ten years, RCMN supported this Aeta community with annual medical and dental missions, relief donations, college scholarships, and seed money for carabaos and goats to enable them to become a self-sustaining community. Since the year 2000, RCMN has undertaken a yearly 6-month daily feeding program for some 300-350 malnourished children in two Makati Public Schools. This program is called “Feed a Child, Build a Nation.” Partners in this project are The Inner Wheel Club of Makati North, RCC Singkamas and Sta Cruz, RC Raffles City in Singapore, Shigeo Takayama Foundation, RC Makati’s Partner in Service Program (PSP) and the District Signified Grant. In 2005, RCMN and IWCMN signed an agreement with Ateneo de Manila University to finance 27 GK houses at Ateneo Blue Eagle Village in Payatas 13. All 27 houses have been built and turned over to the beneficiaries and the street on which these cluster of houses were built will be named RC/IWC Makati North Street. Also, a US$5000 grant from RC Sacramento was obtained by RCMN for a community drinking water project in Ateneo Blue Eagle GK Village. On youth service, since 2005 RCMN in partnership with IWCMN organizes an annual youth congress called League of Extraordinary and Admired Pilipino (LEAP) leaders congress for some 800 – 1000 top graduating college students in Metro Manila. This congress is a one-day interactive learning experience with Pilipino models of excellence to inspire and give hope to the youth. “Maganda ang Pilipinas, Magaling ang Pilipino, Nasa ating kamay and kinabukasan – is the main theme of this congress. Funding for LEAP of about P600k is underwritten by corporate sponsors. In 2005, RCMN was able to obtain a US$23500 matching grant from Rotary International and RC Shah Alam and RC Raffles City, RCMN’s sister club in Malaysia and Singapore to fund medical services and medical supplies for indigent emergency cases at Philippine General Hospital. This fund was expended over a period of 13 months.
Contribution to The Rotary Foundation:
Todate, RCMN has contributed a total of US$136,245.31 to The Rotary Foundation in terms of major donations and PH contributions.
District Governors:
During RY 2001-02, RC Makati North was privileged to have its first District Governor, now PDG Ernie Salas. It will be another distinct honor for RCMN to have its second District Governor in DGE Renato “Ato” Magadia for RY 2007-08.

Before anything else, allow me to wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year.
Perhaps not a few of you are tired of getting this greeting, which probably swamped your mobile phone and e-mail mailboxes. Given the challenges ahead – the global crisis, its repercussions here, the run-up to the next national elections, and others – maybe it will help to hear more well wishes.
So, happy New Year, damn it!
Seriously, the gloomy forecast suggests that this year Rotary is more relevant. Many of us are already feeling the pinch, and the others are probably bracing themselves for the worst. But in a sense, we are still the lucky ones. Imagine the hardship and anxiety of those with lesser means. No matter how difficult our situation is now, there always seems to be someone else somewhere experiencing something worse.
