We had our District Rotary Club Badminton Tournament held at the Yonex Badminton Facility in Mandaluyong City last October 14th. Our very own District Governor Ato Magadia and Spouse Vicky Magadia and District Secretary Ric Dela Torre were present in the opening of this special event. There were about 25 teams that competed in different levels: from mixed partners (male & female), doubles (women) & doubles (men).
The Rotary Club of Makati North sent 2 teams to compete on Class 3, which our very own Treasurer Robert Syjuco and Director Nato Sumalde won the Gold Medal on that Level. Your writer and RR Herrera was the other team who played in the tournament, who gave their best but fell short in getting a medal.
However, our Gold Champions (Robert and Nato team) were undefeated on every game and almost all wins were truly hard fought victories. You can say that every game they fought was a nail biter. Truly, these guys deserved to be called the Champions on that Division!
In the end, we had our ceremonial awarding of the Winners and Runner ups for each division and the actual Medals will be awarded during each clubs regular meeting.
So, All Hail! RC-Makati North Badminton Champions!
To all the Badminton Players and Rotarians who were there, thank you for making the 5th District 3830 Badminton Tournament an enjoyable and fun filled day.
Congratulations to all the winners!

Before anything else, allow me to wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year.
Perhaps not a few of you are tired of getting this greeting, which probably swamped your mobile phone and e-mail mailboxes. Given the challenges ahead – the global crisis, its repercussions here, the run-up to the next national elections, and others – maybe it will help to hear more well wishes.
So, happy New Year, damn it!
Seriously, the gloomy forecast suggests that this year Rotary is more relevant. Many of us are already feeling the pinch, and the others are probably bracing themselves for the worst. But in a sense, we are still the lucky ones. Imagine the hardship and anxiety of those with lesser means. No matter how difficult our situation is now, there always seems to be someone else somewhere experiencing something worse.
