As usual Rotary meeting are interesting, full of variety and they make you think. This week we had the presentation of the sponsorships to students of F. Benitez Main at Barangay Sta. Cruz and F. Benitez III at Barangay Singkamas.

There is no doubt at all that this is a wonderful and worthwhile project. These sorts of project can make a big difference in the community, to the receiving individual and ultimately the country, as we assist people in the all important area of their education (the time that will most influence their later life.) In the time preceding the meeting there was some debate on whether the presentations should take place in such a public way.

I must confess that my own thoughts where in the no camp. However after attending the meeting, I realized as always there are two sides to every story. To see the students accept their award, standing so proudly, I realized that this was perhaps one of a few occasions they would receive some public recognition. It was a chance for them to interactive in a very different social setting to normal.

I was really amazed and proud to see them handle themselves so well, with such dignity and pride. One group had obviously prepared well thought out speeches, whilst the second group had prepared thank you notes and card that obviously had taken time and effort.
I found myself proud to be a Rotarian of Makati North!

So what was my personal conclusion. I am still undecided, but do wonder if we would be better to make the presentations at the school itself rather than at a rotary meeting. This would allow us greater interaction with the community as a rotary club. Show young adults the purpose of Rotary and perhaps even make the presentation itself a little more serious.
I don’t really know…these are just my thoughts.
