Valedictory. As Pres. Mac McLean passed the baton to the next president of RCMN, he cited that changing times require adjusting to a younger mindset and giving the younger set the opportunity to shine in service. PP Mac cited the many outreach projects of the club and acknowledged the selfless dedication, participation and contribution of members and partners in service, with special mention PP Pabling Calma and PDG Ato Magadia who creatively find avenues for quickly raising funds for the club, RC Raffles City’s support for the GK project, the Rotary Community Corps and the RCMN secretariat trio of Betty, Moly and Cris.

Inaugural. The energy and exuberance of youth was evident as 32-year old Archie Reano took the stage to deliver his inaugural address as President of this prestigious 39-year old Rotary Club of Makati North. Undaunted by only 3 years of Rotary service, Archie embraces the presidency guided by his grandfather’s reminder that “I shall not pass this way again” and dad PP (now Papa) Joe’s reference to Bobby Kennedy saying “some people ask why; and I ask why not?” He declared his commitment to make a difference in the lives of others and stands for a Philippines that works. With the help of RCMN Rotarians, his co-Changemaker Presidents, his secret weapons (the Anns, including his wife Tintin) and RCMN’s other partners in service, he is certain to fulfill this commitment.

Governor Billy Villareal. PDG Ato Magadia introduced DG Billy as an accomplished and distinguished military man with 39 years training and serving in many capacities here and abroad, now serving as a defense and international security consultant for civilian and government organizations. In his address, DG Billy cited RCMN as a balanced club with its multi-faceted activities, encouraging Pres. Archie to tap the support of members, particularly past presidents who continue to be active. He also reiterated the RI President’s emphasis on the family and the home as the core of Rotary service. From the family it can reach out to communities and humanity like an extended family. This appears to be the inspiration for this year’s theme “Reach Within to Embrace Humanity”.

The Lighter Side. This year’s induction was graced not only by RCMN members and their spouses, but also by Pres. Archie’s family and friends in service including RC Raffles City Singapore’s Pres. Aaron Tan, PP David Ong, PP Jimmy Daruwalla and Dr. Chin Koy Nam, his co-Changemaker Presidents, the Rotary Community Corps & Rotaractors of Sta. Cruz and Singkamas, and his personal friends from Landmark Education.

Music, dance and art were features of this induction: songs from friends of Pres. Archie and the Rotaractors, a modern dance number from the Anns, a lovely intricate dance from Pres. Archie and wife Tintin, decorative jars from Maribel Calma and paintings from PDG Ernie Salas & spouse Chichi which were raffled off along with gift certificates from Sofitel and Manila Peninsula.

Even as the formalities of induction are completed, Pres. Archie remains engaged, at one with his co-RCMNers as they serve others and develop friendships. But, as President, PDG Ernie Salas said, he takes on the privilege of leadership that makes him first among equals.

Go Team Archie!
