Opportunity!!

District 3830’s guru on The Rotary Foundation (TRF) PP Dr. Ignacio Pablo (RC Rizal West) was our guest speaker. PP Nash has presented TRF many times, including a few times to RCMN, so he knows how to get the message across. His main message – use TRF because the Foundation is designed to provide opportunity for active participation of Rotarians in humanitarian projects. TRF-driven projects also assist in the development of Rotary networks and allow Rotarians to demonstrate a commitment to stewardship. PP Nash showed us that TRF is a truly exciting resource.

The meeting was steered, again, by expert moderator PP Dieter Brueckner. Vince Tan had an invocation prepared for us but had difficulty finding it on his cellphone, so he shortened his prayer successfully. PP Bert Lingad introduced PP Nash, and PP Pabling Calma compensated for interrupting our guest speaker by paying for lunch for all of us.

At President’s Time, Pres. Mac made sure that our guest speaker was aware that RCMN is active in an endeavor which is close to PP Nash’s heart. Dr Ignacio Pablo is a food technologist, among other accomplishments, so he was pleased to hear that RCMN will feed 150 undernourished schoolchildren for the whole Rotary year. “Feed A Child, Build A Nation” is an RI slogan which we already associate with PP Nash.

Pres. Mac also set up voting among RCMNers about where to hold our Christmas party. At time writing, Titania restaurant on Yakal Street seems favored over Brasserie 21 in Security Bank Building or PP Ed Mijares’ yacht – which PP Ed has already said may not be suitable for the more than 35 people expected.

“Building Communities, Bridging Continents”, RI’s theme for this Rotary year, is a particularly appropriate message for the activities of The Rotary Foundation, said PP Nash. TRF has developed over the years into an organization which makes it easy for people who care about making our world “not as it is but what it could be.” TRF is a monument of love, he said. “I want you to fall in love with The Rotary Foundation.” Truly, there are so many ways that TRF wants to help us, that’s not unrealistic.
