The Week That Was
By Rtn. Daniel Wiedmer

This week’s meeting had a wonderful, relaxed atmosphere. The fellowship was nice and warm, the meeting’s agenda important (Recognition Day of President Klink!) and the red wine was tasty… The proceedings started off with good news: PP Tony Chong reported that our Club had successfully raised money for the medical treatment of a poor kid with lymphoma.
Representatives from El Nido and from Operation Smile were also present. El Nido had been a generous sponsor of our 36th Anniversary. Operations Smile was the principal beneficiary of the funds raised at the Anniversary Ball. President Klink proudly handed over a check of PHP 300,000 to Bobby Manzano of Operations Smile (as well as a 1 year subscription of Manila Times). Our Club’s contribution will fund the surgery for 20 children with cleft deformities and lay the foundation for a brighter future for them. Congratulations to President Klink for transforming our Anniversary party into a great celebration with charitable meaning!
Beginnings…This congress was born and conceptualized over coffee sometime in October 2003 when then President Ma. Christina “Tina” Herrera, her husband Porong Herrera and then Vice President Corazon “Cora” Tan were brainstorming at Starbucks Katipunan for other club projects. They felt that the future of our country lies in the development of young, unjaded and uncorrupted leaders whose idealism and values, if properly focused, will propel us to “LEAP forward” towards a better nation.

More thanks to now-IPP Klink and to his supporting cast of officers and directors for a job well done. Needless to say, IPP Klink’s exemplary leadership truly deserves recognition and I am fortunate to be following his footsteps. Indeed, I have much to learn from Klink’s down-to-earth nature and low-key leadership approach and I am only deeply reassured by his constant generous words of support and encouragement.

To RCMN, I give you my own reassurance that I will try my best to fulfill the role you entrusted me and I am also confident that the club could count on the rest of the incoming officers and directors to help run the club in their own smart and creative ways. Of course, we also expect unselfish support, better cooperation and active participation from the rest of the members.
President Klink Ang in one of his messages to the club membership, encourages members to focus on fellowship, recruitment and social projects. The series of photographs illustrates one of the major social projects the Rotary Club of Makati North is involved with – Gawad Kalinga Ave. Maria Village.
